The 4am start was pretty easy
considering....after a 40 min bus ride to San Jose and a 2 min taxi
drive crosstown I arrived at the bus station to take me to Nosara...a
small town near Ostional where I would hopefully hitch a ride
(according to lonely planet). Early morning, San Jose, thru the bus
window looked extremely sketchy with randoms lurking in unlit streets
so I was glad I passed up on visiting the city.

The 7 hour bus ride whizzed past
because of some great philisophical and musical conversation with a
48 year old dread-locked, suited and booted (with T-shirt)
writer/producer, Paul (who incidentally produced ....... with Ian
Brown of the Stone Roses). I really hope I bump into that guy again
on my travels. I could spend hours listening to this guy talk who's
outlook on life was pretty inspiring. I can assure you - you don't
meet many people like him everyday...

Upon arrival at Nosara I was informed
that there was no transportation to 7km further on, Ostional due to
flooding. The bridge was out and a couple of people had died in their
car only the other day trying to traverse the river! Arghh! The only
silver lining was the footbridge was still accessible so I began the
7km hike hoping I could hitch a ride some of the way. I was in
luck...no more than a kilometer up the road, I caught a ride with a
dread-locked local who took me within a km of the bridge. The other
side of the bridge I was again lucky and caught a ride on the back of
a locals motorbike all the way to the refuge (bags and all!).

I 'm hoping to be lucky some
more....the turtles haven't arrived yet but their is local talk that
they will be thousands laying eggs on the beach in the next couple of
days....regardless, I think I'll stick around as the rooms are only
$5 a night, the beach is deserted save a few vultures. This will be
a good place to rest up for a while and hopefully catch a great
experience. Bring on the arribada!!
