This weekend was really really fun. Probably the best weekend in Paris. Yesterday was a nice cap to the weekend; since it was a national holiday, Bastille day. Bastille day is a huge deal in Paris, who knew. It represents a lot for Parisians, namely freedom from oppression. The day after the Bal du Pompiers, Jen and I woke up early to watch the military parade. However, we got there too late, at 9:30AM. It was packed. We knew we wouldn't be able to see anything so we left.

Afterwards, we learned from our mistake and went to the Eiffel Tower early, at 6:40PM for the 11 PM show! We were supposed to meet people under the tower for 7 PM. Instead Jen and I found a place to sit at Champs du Mars. We were lucky in that a couple guys had a really good piece of real estate and they left and gave it to us. There were already thousands of people there! So we spread out our blankets and waited for our friends to arrive. Serena came first and then Caleb and then Jonathan and finally Leigh and Conrad. The weather was perfect! Gorgeous and sunny and hot and it cooled down in the evening. Serena brought baguettes and brie and Leigh brought about 4 bottles of wine. We ate and listened to French music (although James Blunt also performed). The light show was amazing. It was choreographed to opera music. My favourite was this classical song, I don't know the name of it, and when the coordinated it with Nessun Dorma. The light show was about 40 minutes long...I can't really express how it was, it was one of those things that you'd have to be there to see!
