Where I stayed
We go back to get some things to stay the night in a hotel and find out that the area we are in is "Seedy." We were cautioned not to ever leave our children's side for a second and not to be out at night. We decided to move down the way to a better area. Got a hotel and decided to do a scenic drive towards Houma as we were supposed to go to Houma today. What a delight! It started out with a rainstorm that was blinding, but when we came out the other side. WOW! Beautiful plantation style homes on acres of land!
There is a square in St Martinville where Longfellow wrote his poem to Evangeline. Everything is named after the 2 of them there. Continued our scenic drive to New Iberia. What a town! Full of some amazing plantation homes including Shadows on the Teche. Audrey wasn't feeling up to it and was hungry so Clark and Rusty went on the tour of the home. It was very delightful and Rusty's favorite of the three he has seen so far. Ellen got daughter a snack and continued to drive around town looking at all the sights.
Returned to the Lafayette area over Breau Bridge a historical draw bridge in the area. We ate dinner at the Filling Station! Once again, really good food! And yes, it is an old gas station in the middle of the downtown area. Really cute. Went back to the hotel where the pool was outdoors and built out over the Bayou. Muddy water with numerous Bass boats navigating their way through . Kids got lots of pool time in!
