Weather: Warm, Sunny, Scattered T-Storms
For those of you who think Fairbanks is a cold and bleak city well think again. Alex and I slept in and woke to a sunny and warm morning. Well, it had been sunny since 0230. In fact, the sun didn't go down until 2300. Anyhow, the day was beautiful. Fairbanks in the summer is a warm, lush, and active town. There are people running on paths, lots of bicycles, motorcycles, people floating down the river in kayaks and more.
After Gary made Alex and I 'typical' Alaska breakfast (big) we headed out for a look-see. We got a lesson on perma-frost and what it does when you build on it. Basically, the heat captured in the craw space melts the perma-frost and the foundation sinks
After a visit to Gary's business/shop (B&B Excavation "We Can Dig It") we headed to the Alaska Museum at the University of Alaska. Beautiful campus and great museum. Lots of exhibits of native Alaskan culture etc. See pictures..
After the museum, we headed back to Gary's place where he started dinner and I rode around on his quad. Alex got connected and disappeared for a while. Dinner consisted of BBQ wild coho salmon, sausages, veggies and Crown:)
It was a great day for a break. First day off the bike in eight.
