Finally the ALCAN!
Arrived today in Dawson Creek mile 0 of the ALCAN. The ride up from Prince George (PG) was brisk and scenic. BC 97 between PG and Dawson Creek was what I was expecting, We stopped at a gas station adjacent to the MacKenzie exit and there was this 'cute' fox begging for food. I mean a real four-legged fox trotting around the parking lot. Anyway, the first real up-north wildlife we have seen - except for the countless moose warning signs.
Dawson Creek and the Peace River Valley area looks like the mid-west in many respects. Rolling farm land. Dawson Creek is a agricultural center with a tourist attraction called the ALCAN. Residents seem unimpressed with the 'majesty' of Mile 0 of the mighty ALCAN but me and other tourists clicked away.
Since the ride was so quick today, arriving at 1230, I decided to head to Fort St. John 40 miles up the ALCAN. We are staying at the Caravan Motel. Not bad for $60.
Today is Canada Day; July 1st. There was a fireworks display tonight in Fort St. John. I at outside and watched until the mosquito's began to win. Oh Canada!
