The ride was pleasant but lacking highlights, so I decided to start a collection, water towers. I remember that many towns in the south have water towers, and some are certainly kodak moments. We didn't go near Gaffney, SC, but theirs is one of those moments. Some of the collection was photographed on the go from I-64 and I-95, and lack the best side or definition. We did pull off to capture the Halifax one. I will include my collections as separate entries as I continue collecting.
South of the Border is an area in South Carolina, just south of the North Carolina state line off I-95
Because of the time we spent at SOB, we didn't get to Myrtle Beach in time to find Jamin' Leather. We stopped at a welcome center and got some deals on motel rooms and free razors !?!?. Perhaps they are in demand during the summer at the beach. They had a pink one for me and blue for Doug...ahhhh. We took a 10th floor room at The Reef, and didn't realize the magnificence of our view until the next morning. At 6:45 Doug tapped me on the shoulder and said "I hate to wake you, but you must see the sun rise." It was worth the view, and we spent hours on the balcony admiring the ocean, having breakfast with the birds and watching a few people beach combing. Before checking out we had a walk on the beach, where we both got soakers and had to change footwear
In search of Jamin' Leather again, we found it in Surfside Beach, just south of Myrtle Beach. The vests didn't turn out to be what I had hoped. There were many nice ones in other colors, but I am only after white on this trip. I did see the white thong, but resisted trying it on. I did, however, find a must have. I am the proud owner of new chaps with red rose insets on the each leg. They will complement my red m/c.
Hwy 378 from Myrtle Beach to Columbia was a very nice drive-would be a good motorcycle drive. There were interesting small towns, glimpses of rural life, lots of agricultural area in various stages of growth, swamps, etc. Interesting names: Puddin Swamp Road, Alligator Branch Road, Wateree River. And, not to be missed, Hannah, South Carolina. The picture is for you, Hannah (grand niece).
Wednesday, taking it easy at Fran's in Cleveland. Heavy rains and T storms today, but better weather ahead for visiting family, looking for roots and another collection...senior buildings.
