Stayed here for a weekend. We bought 3 x 2man tents between 6 of us. After the first night, half the lads couldn't hack it so they dived into a local hostel (Aquarious - savage spot). The 3 of us who remained (myself, will, fox) took a tent each and toughed it out. The tents were like ovens in the morning, and most of the night was spent killing mozzies, ants and spiders that were crawling in. The constant noise of birds, lizards, iguanas etc that were roaming around the tent didn't help the overall conditions. At 7pm on the dot, the place got dark and the mozzies came out to feed. We left every night at 7pm.

The beach in Byron bay was sweet. We spent every morning on it, since the tents were too hot. One day we were swimming, i saw a black fin coming towards myself and fox. We legged it out of the water, but it was only a fat dolphin. We took a few surfing lessons one day, fairly savage...didn't stay on the surf-board long...after 40 pints of stout about to fall
about to fall
. After the surf we went for a swim in a weird brown lake. The lake looked like tea. The thing was surrounded by tea trees which seeped tea tree oil into the lake. The water tasted like ice tea without the sugar...strange yoke.

Another day we drove into the rainforest to visit a town called 'Nimbin'. The place was just a small street up in the mountains, full of hippies living out their retired days with plenty of homegrown herb. The one day we arrived, the town was full of riot police, raiding one of the local shops. They confiscated a few MILLION quid worth of weed and bongs. The locals weren't too happy and staged a protest, a little green leprecahaun being their ring-leader. Funny Stuff.

If anyone ever heads to Bryon bay head to the railway bar for a steak sandwich. I've never eaten a sandwich as good...and if you fancy dancing on tables go to the 'cheeky monkey'...the dance floor is a bunch of tables with a special grip for the flip flops...dance monkey dance.
