Spent one night here. The town was an old Scottish colony. The place looked exactly like Scotland. Cold, wet and miserable. They have a huge student population in the town which were off on holidays so that sucked the life out of the place. After walking around the octogon (instead of a town square they had an octogon to be fancy), we sampled a few bars. In one i remember having an Irish stew and a pint of Murphys by the fire, while the rain battered down outside. 15000miles away and exactly like Cork. Even the Murphys was good. We went to another bar called the wig n pen or something like that. The place had about 4 different names for different sections. There was one lad with cowboy boots, tight jeans and a studded belt hanging by the bar. We left. In the hostel there was a chill-out room with darts, pool, music etc. We had the place to ourselves. There was a surprising lack of bottle shops, so we popped into a dingy pub for a take-out. The bar man wasn't around so the old bar-flys at the counter obliged. They jumped behind the till, opened it up, took our cash and handed over a few 2 litre bottles of local beer, they even gave us a discount. Then the barman came back...wondering what was going on.
