Hey Hey and a Big G'Day toya

MAAAAAAAAAAAAAATE!
My Friendzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!

I just spent Chinese New Year IN FREAKIN CHINA!
It was huge!  It was awesome!  It was drunken!  It was even sexy!

New Years Eve was one of the greatest days I've ever had.
Do you know where we went?
We were invited to a Dai Wedding Feast.

We hired bikes and with no plan just headed in a random direction.  You can do these things when you have two fluent Mandarin speakers with you!  The countryside was full of green rice fields, palm trees, little villages and small rivers snaked their way through all of that.

We were all so full of smiles which soon became much bigger as the day became hazy!

We were hours out of Jinghong and passing through a little village when a man stopped us.  Luckily we had Meggie and Rafal with us as what he was saying was actually inviting us to his daughters wedding feast.  Did we really want to go to a Dai Wedding Feast?  We didn't even need to think it over.  We spent the day eating local foods and drinking rice wine and beer.  That rice wine is a real killer and I think I will stay away from it from now on.  It's worse than straight vodka or gin.  We spent several hours with the family and their friends and in the late afternoon we drunkenly placed our feet on our peddles and waved good bye.

Wasn't the ride home full of fun!
If there was a line in the middle of the track none of us would have been able to follow it!

Many hours later and with heads that were much straighter we arrived back in Jinghong.  Once we handed our bikes back we headed directly to Forest Café where the Scots were waiting for us with several cold beers and one very sexy French girl named Susie.  We were so hungry and ordered a heap of food and began the night's celebrations.

Soon another two Australian girls joined us.
WOW, more of me!

It was such a great night.  Small children would run up to us with little crackers and throw them at us.  Everyone had sparklers and the entire city was filled with booming sounds the night through.  It was so funny, one of the guys who was working at the café had taught himself English by watching Hollywood action films.  His vocabulary was disgusting.  He swore so much.  I've never heard anything like it before.  I think half the time he didn't even know what the word meant, he just used it as that's how it is used in the films he got it from.

He was also very funny so it balanced out.

I don't even know what time we got home and don't really remember going home.
But the night was full of so much fun and a very sexy French girl!

Today after dragging ourselves out of bed we headed to Mei Mei's for lunch where little children continued to throw crackers at us through the window.  They were landing in our food and drinks.  Fun but a little dangerous.  We had to have Mei Mei tell them to go away.  We then hired bikes again and rode along the river to Ganlanba which is the next town after Jinghong.  We actually passed it the other day when we rode to the Banna Xiwang Park.  Such a tiny town but it was great to relax and feel our heads return to us after the ride.

Luckily none of us were really hungover but we all were very tired thought.

We then continued on and left the main road several times to find quiet little villages to ride around.  When we got back we all had a short sleep before heading out for dinner and more beer.

WOW, all I can say is that I am glad it is you at work reading this and that it is me here living it!
Ha Ha to you....shane

The soundtrack to this entry is a band with one of the greatest sounds ever.
The band was White Zombie and the album 'Supersexy Swinging Sounds'.
I was so happy that Rob Zombie took this sound with him when the band parted!

(2007) How lucky am I.  I celebrated my first Chinese New Year (in China) in Jinghong.
My second was spent in Yangshuo five years later and my third was spent back in Jinghong!
Oh and my fourth was spent in a small village here in Shaowu where I live now.
How wonderful life is!
