Hey Hey and a Big G'Day toya,

I am finally HERE!
HERE I finally am!

These were my thoughts as I sat drinking my first beer on Bangkok's Khao San Road. For me this was the first real 'big step' in the wishful thinking of a life on the road. It's what I had dreamed of for so long but had kept myself away from for no actual real reason. Koh San Road is one of the worlds most well known roads/areas for travelers. It is where so many, like me begin their journey and others chose to end theirs.

The 'road' is only small but it has a big name and I had finally placed foot upon it and finished my first cold beer purchased overseas!

I arrived the morning before at 6:30am without sleep. Being the penny saver I was I purchased the 'red eye' special that departed Melbourne Australia at 1:15am. I already had a hotel booked so I didn't have to go through the business of finding one. The plane ride was fine but traveling at night was not a good move. There is so much world beneath you, why sit sleepless and watch movies when you can look in awe from your window.

I was too excited to sleep, instead read about what I hoped I was in for over the next month on my tour prior to my solo journey into the world of the unknown.

I spent the day riding in a Tuk Tuk seeing the sights. A fantastic introduction to the streets of Bangkok but after several hours of visiting the same types of shops and stalls over and over again it becomes a little too much. Though it costs bugger all to hire a driver for the day, you end up paying in time. They take you to all their 'friends' stores where they receive petrol vouchers for bringing customers.

The following day I gave the Tuk Tuks a miss and decided to walk instead.

I was consumed by every sound and smell whilst walking the streets amongst the locals. The colours of life were dazzling. I walked all the way from our hotel to Koh San Road where I sat for several beers. Whilst I walked I submerged myself within the road side markets. It was pretty mind blowing for me especially when as it was my first time overseas.

I walked somewhere around 30kms for the day.

Several days later I was to leave Bangkok, finally I would be visiting my real dream, the land of the Vietnamese people. The weather was perfect in Thailand, the food was perfect and the people were perfect.

Oh, one more perfect, I forgot to add the beer!

I won't write any more about my visit to Bangkok here. I walked, I ate, I saw the sites but it was not enough. My stay was too short for my real desire to write about it to come out. One day soon I hope to return.

Beers N Cheers to ya...shane
