We arrived here at midnight at the hostel but that didn't stop the crazy travellers going out on the town for a look around and a beer. The streets were crazy and brightly lit with lots of street entertainment and the smell of everyone smoking all kinds of stuff wafting in the air. There was a lot of people about as our visit clashed with the Amsterdam Marathon Weekend. The next day we watched the marathon for a bit and clapped all the exhausted looking runners, then went on a canal ride throughout the city which is the best way to see the sights, coffee in hand, a seat and no traffic problems to contend with. Think there are 75 canals and 1200 bridges, but we only managed a few coz Ali was lazy!!!!
We walked to the Dam square (sorry for swearing) where we saw the world war II monument and had the obligatory photos. We also saw the fairground but Ali whimped out of the rides so she deprived me of all my fun! Actually, the fun had only just begun as the next stop was the "Sex Museum" as recommended by Steph and Alan! This was rather funny with all the graphic pics and naked models that leap out of the wall at you. Some of the write-ups were quite funny too although this wasn't exactly a place for reading the text if you know what I mean!!!!!! Went out for nice meal and a couple of drinks before chilling at the hostel.
The next day we went to the Van Gogh Museum where we learnt about his life and illness. We then went for a walk all around the city, including the Jewish quarter, which took several hours. By the time we were finished walking we were tired so went straight for dinner in an Italian restaurant next to the red light district. After dinner we went to explore the night life of Amsterdam and saw sights similar to Hamburg's forbidden street, whoooopppeeee!!!!
Today we went to the Anne Frank Museum, which is the house where she hid out during the war. We went to Vondel park after the Museum and sat and watched the world go by. Now we are going to a restaurant before flying back to Liverpool for a 10 day visit to the UK!!!! See ya soon everyone!!!!!
