We got up early and drove to Freemantle where we got the ferry over to Rottnest Island. We then hired a tandem bike to ride around the island. The island is only about 17.5kms long and 4.5kms wide and so we were able to cycle all the cycle tracks in one day and we got a very good look at the island. It is about 30mins from Freemantle and is famous for the Quokkas that live there. These are little animals that hop like kangaroos but have a face similar to a koala and a rat mixed together. We saw some on the island today and they are really very cute! We also saw lots of whales out at sea jumping right out of the water. The island itself is so beautiful and amazingly peaceful as there are no cars (except police and rangers). All you see all day are people cycling or walking, animlas roaming about, lots of beautiful greenery and beautiful lakes. Oh and of course the coast and out to sea. It was a brilliant day. Apart from our seagull situation! We were having breakfast and some seagulls swooped down and tried to steal Ed's bacon. I made a complete show of myself by shouting at the seagulls in full view of the whole cafe and everyone walking past! Oh and there was a Peacock roaming freely around the cafe. That was pretty beautiful though!
By the time we got back tonight we were both exhausted from cycling all that way - we covered about 20-25 miles in total. So an early night is called for!
