We got the bus up to the Waitomo Caves yesterday ready to do the cave tour today. It was a tour through the Ruakuri cave and was really good. Ruakuri means "two dogs". The cave has been named this after the two dogs who tried to kill a tribesman for food but were unsuccessful and instead he followed them back to their lair, which turned out to be the cave, and killed them. The cave is beautiful with lots of stalactites and stalagmites that have formed over the years, and also lots of glow-worms living there. They are cool as they have green blobs on the end of their tails which glow in the dark. Apparently this is where they poo and it glows when they are looking for food. Nice! But glow-worms never stray far from where they are born so the glow-worms will remain in the caves for ever. There were thousands of them.
Once we came out of the cave there was not much else to do as we are in the middle of nowhere so we went back to the hostel and read our books! How exciting! But why have I never read Dan Brown before?!! He is amazing!!!
