On Saturday we went down to "The Forks", an area that joins the Assiniboine River to the Red River. We watched some dragon boat racing, which was on to raise money for cancer research charity. Erica knew someone who was taking part so we spent the day watching the races and all the entertainment that went with it. There was a Karate school that put on a show and some salsa dancers also put on a bit of a show although it was very short. It was a really good day. Pity it wasn't hot enough to sunbathe or we'd have been set! Saturday night was cool - Erica and her partner took us to a casino! There was an aquarium in there with lots of pretty fish and there was a talking skeleton! Whatever we said he would make a joke about. It was very funny but we are intrigued as to where the voice was coming from! As part of the casino there was a dancefloor and bar. We went down stairs to watch the band for a while and ended up dancing the night away! It was really good fun! The late night meant that we missed a breakfast date on Sunday morning though - oops! Sunday was spent with Ed driving around to get used to driving on the opposite side and also going to Elmer's for a gorgeous mexican dinner cooked by his very fair hands. We then spent the evening watching a movie. On Monday it was raining - what?!!! So we went to the museum only to find that it is closed on Mondays! Instead we went for a walk - yes in the rain - around the exchange district of Winnipeg. We also stopped for lunch at a very nice pub! Ali drove around a bit today. That was fun! Tuesday was a beautiful sunny day. Erica's friend took us to Bird's Hill Park, a nature reserve North of Winnipeg. We walked around one of the trails and watched the geese swimming in the lake. We saw a skier training for the ski season on some long roller blades with ski type things underneath. Then we went to a quaint little tea shop to buy some jam. It was a very nice walk and a very nice day! Today we are going to try to hit the museum again and hope that it is open! We are also going to try the Art Gallery to see what we can see. Will update you about that soon!!!
We are now in Winnipeg. We arrived on 4th September and Ed's Auntie (Erica) met us at the airport and drove us back to her condo, which is pretty cool. We stayed up talking for a while but it was pretty late so we went to bed fairly soon. Wednesday, Thursaday and Friday were spent chilling out and walking around the local area and a nature trail near Erica's place. It is very peaceful and calm here. When we walked along the nature trail we came across a family of deers. A mum and two babies! We followed them into a field to get some pictures! Getting that close to deers is amazing! Deers have free reign in this area and can often be seen walking across people's lawns and crossing the road with no regard for safety. Did no one teach them the green cross code?!!! During these few days Ali got a haircut. The hairdresser was very impressed with the english accent and insisted on talking about the merits of Eastenders. Everyone thinks that sums up English people - how bizarre!!!
