After nearly 3 months in Africa, we were eager to return to western civilization and indulge in some modern comforts. Although we only had 3 days in London, there were several things on our to-do list: eat some of our favourite foods (ie. Chinese, Japanese, Indian), watch a movie, meet up with friends, do laundry (at a laundromat!), and oh yeah...see London's sights! Since this was our last stop in a western country for the next six months, we splurged a little. For instance, we paid 7 pounds each (about $15 Cdn!) on a movie ticket to see MI:III. Funny thing is, this is considered very cheap in London where the usual ticket price is 12.50 pounds, but we had managed to find one of those old style theatres with a balcony, so the tickets were cheaper. Luckily though, London does offer quite a few free sights which we took advantage of, including the changing of the guards at Buckingham Palace, the British Museum, Tate Modern Gallery, and Tower Bridge. But we had to splurge some more, so we also paid to ride the London Eye ferris wheel and to cruise the Thames River.

We crammed in as much as we could and did pretty much everything on our list. We were so intent on eating all of our favourite foods that we took a bus all across town at midnight just so we could eat Indian food. Crazy as that is, it was well worth it for - we ordered our food spicy, so we were sweating a little through our meal, but it was good preparation for our India trip in October!

We really enjoyed our time in London, especially because we got to meet up with some friends we had made on our travels in Africa. We had a mini reunion at a pub with a couple of people (Emmie & Bailey) from our overland safari trip, and we also visited a couple we had met on our desert excursion in Morocco (Kemal & Veronique). Unfortunately, Ed and I became a little cynical in Morocco because of some of the negative experiences we had, but we met so many fantastic people who really restored our faith in mankind. Kemal and Veronique invited us into their home for a home-cooked meal and we all had a jolly good time! Kemal is originally from Turkey (our next destination) and we got a few tips and a quick language lesson so we would know what to expect. How awesome are they?!

We're now off to Istanbul, where we'll be starting our journey down to Cairo. While we'll miss the little luxuries, we're looking forward to the warm weather, beaches, and putting some of our haggling skills to work in the markets.

Hey guys!
Cheers for the namecheck on your London entry! Better than me when we went rafting being described as the girl who was traumatised!

So great to hear all your stories- helps make remember there's more to life than London when I'm having a bad day at work and the weather's shocking... it's June and it looks like November.

Take care and keep having fun,

Emmie xxx
