We decided to stay at the hotel to meet today. That way we didn't waste time getting around - Peter had to take Rex to the clinic to have the wound cleaned and re-bandaged - Rajeev was up and down because of his cold, so the lobby was fine. A tad hot today but a breeze blows through. We met all morning, had a late lunch and were basically done. We'll wrap things up over dinner tonight. While Rex and Rajeev slept this afternoon, Peter took Kurien, Dave and Ruth Harvey, and I over to the other side of the hilly island to the tourist beaches-some big, some coves-all very pretty despite the heat haze and it is hot.
The heat would not make you want to come and enjoy the beaches. It was pretty stifling and the air conditioned SUV was a blessing. I suppose if you are lulling in the water and sipping iced coffee along the boardwalk it would be fun, but the bazillions of dollars all those zillions of tourists were dumping there to get sunburned was not attractive to me. Very pretty scenery though, with the green hills and ocean.
The hills saved the island from the tsunami that hit 40 ft high at this point as it is a direct line to the epicenter and this was the first land hit to the north. Everything is brand new and there is hardly a trace of the damage anymore. The Thai government was right on it and even had power back in 3 days in most places on the island because the damage was kept to the beaches by the hills. Then the afternoon deluge hit and I am sure it is more comfortable out now.
When Peter dropped us off at the hotel, I darted around the car in the rain and fell, but being young and agile, I'm fine. David didn't fall but pulled some muscle in his calf that has happened before and says will leave him limping for 4 days.
My message on Sunday evening is to be a gospel message. As I have been working through James for months teaching it at the 140, I have gone through the book to see what he says about sin. It's incredible. At least 13 passages name sin or are on sin. And then woven in throughout is the solution to the sin problem with the highlight being 4:5-10, though his central themes of faith and prayer relate to it throughout as well. I trust that the HS makes the message clear that evening. Well, I must go send this off before they come to take us to a 7pm supper and get us back at 9ish to pack and get ready to leave, pay hotel bills etc. Tonight I intend to get to bed at a more reasonable time as we leave at 6:30am for the airport and I haven't been getting that much sleep. Prayer requests: * Seems to be attacks on the health area of our delegates. Pray for health for the main conference and for the other 20 or so coming to Singapore. * Pray for meetings with Singaporean brethren this weekend - missions committee from the big Assembly - ECS Singapore board - and also for 3 or 4 ministry meetings I have, 2 on Sunday to the assembly of 700.
