I'm starting to think the letter "M" is bad luck for me . . . May, Milwaukee, Montana . . .

Right now it's SNOWING and the Beartooth Pass to Yellowstone is closed so I have to go around through Cody. But that's not the topper. I almost lost the Little Guy at Little Big Horn yesterday.

Okay - this is actually funny because nothing really terrible happened in the end.

I'm driving through Little Big Horn Battleground, stopping at the overlooks, reading the signs that tells you what happened where (i.e. how Custer lost the 7th Calvary), and getting a bit peckish. I pull over at another viewpoint and grab a protein bar out of the back then get out of the car to check out Sniper Ridge. I'm reading the sign and looking around when I hear a boom. I turn around and don't see anything except another car going by so I think maybe they ran over something. I turn around and continue to read the sign and snack on my protein bar. Then I turn around to get back in the car, but it's farther away then I remember parking it. Can you hear the wheels start turning now? Yup, then it dawns on me, I forgot to put the break on and the Little Guy silently rolled back down the turn off area and, luckily, hit a parking curb.

Walking down to the car, I keep thinking - "you idiot!" I looked at the damage and was relieved that the new back end was not damaged, just the plastic engine cover under the carriage. It's hanging by one bolt. I flagged down a car and asked if they have any tools that I can undo the bolt and take it off. He said no, but he had a knife. Prior to giving it to me he said that I must agree to hold him harmless if I cut myself with it to which I quipped, "what? Are you a lawyer?" to which he replied, "That's exactly what I am." Anyway, the knife worked beautifully and I put the damaged part into the car and was on my way.

I stopped by the dealership in Billings but they didn't have a replacement in stock. So now, I'm going to call the dealership in Helena and have them order one for me that I can pick up next week. Until then, I need to stay on paved roads.
