Hello, everyone!

It's been back to life as usual after my month and a half of visitors, work groups and travelling! It was a definite shock to realize just how much of a difference it makes to have at least one other adult in the room. Sol Anyel has been helping out lately, and that's been just wonderful!

We even got into some fingerpainting... Craziness, I know. We did some very messy art projects for a few days, but the water has been inconsistent for the last week and a half or so, so that's put the kabosh on those for a little while! I've gotten very good at the 1/2-gallon shower. (Huh. Now it's not about being able to have tepid water rather than freezing -- it's just about having water. Funny how priorities change!)

We had our first meeting of a new women's group on Tuesday, and it was a success. There were 15 women, and we had a wonderful time laughing and talking. The group was started in response to some violence against women in the community and the blame-the-victims mentality of the community, so we have a focus of discussing these issues but definitely got off the subject enough to have a riotous laugh! In the community I worked in for a week in Honduras, a women's group had been started and contributed greatly to a drop in domestic violence -- simply because the men knew the women _could_ talk about it.

I also helped Marci figure out a science project for Victor. I had two choices for her -- inflating a balloon with vinegar and baking soda and making a suspension out of corn starch and water. She ended up going with the balloon because Victor had to do it all by himself, but not before the adults had a great time making a mess of the suspension!
Apparently, if you mix corn starch and water in the right consistency, it makes a solution that can behave both as a liquid and a solid as a result of surface tension. (This one's called a dilatant liquid.) If you punch the top quickly, it feels like a solid and your hand comes away dry, but you can still put your fingers into the liquid and get them all messy. We had a great time and got very, very messy! (This was _before_ the water went out, by the way!)

Enjoy the pictures -- I hope you're having a wonderful start to your summer!

P.S. Still looking for money for this year's budget, by the way!
