St. Paul's Last Weekend
Trip Start Jun 16, 2005
46Trip End Aug 2006
Well, Mom, Dad and June left today, and we had a wonderful trip to Manuel Antonio this weekend. Mom made it all the way around the national park trail, which is pretty taxing - but at least not as muddy this time as when Dad and I went last August!
We ended up staying at the Banana Tree Hotel, which was pretty nice and less expensive than Costa Verde. I still like Costa Verde better, but we had a nice, big, two-bedroom flat with a kitchen, and all in all it was a nice stay.
We saw lots of iguanas, some monkeys, and I got to go swimming in the ocean... yay. I'm looking forward to bringing my cousins, aunt and uncle there in a couple of weeks
Gonzalo left yesterday as well. Gonzalo and Amy Jahn, who was here two years ago, are planning to get married, but are trying to get a fiancÚ visa first (this would mean they'd have to get married within 90 days of his arrival in the US). So, Gonzalo had to go to Nicaragua to try to get his papers in order and to do his visa interviews, and visit his family as well. One of the very interesting and difficult things will be because of... well, ICE. Amy and Gonzalo have to prove the existence of their relationship - emails, photos, and phone bills. Since Gonzalo had to borrow a phone from his cousin, for the same reasons my cell phone is in Marci's name, his name doesn't show up as the owner of the phone line, even though he's the one who's been paying for it! Also, ICE had written Gonzalo's cousin's name incorrectly when they registered the phone line, so we're not totally sure that a letter with both of them swearing to Gonzalo's use of the phone will work. And, ICE doesn't do itemized lists of phone calls, so Amy's number doesn't show up, though Gonzalo is being billed for general "international calls." It would really stink if the visa were denied as a result of a few clerical errors by such an inefficient company!
So, everyone's leaving. =( However, my friend Natalia is coming in tomorrow, and her friend Danny is coming in tonight, so I'll definitely not be lacking gringo company.
I hope you're all doing well!
P.S. As a bit of an addition, on May 4: Natalia and Dan both made it in safely, and they've been having lots of fun with the kids here. Enjoy the pictures!
