Hello, everyone!
It's been a while since the last entry, but I had been quite busy getting everything together for the Christmas rush. I have a lot of appreciation for all the work Santa has to do every year... and I only had 72 kids to wrap presents for!
St. Paul donated Christmas presents for the students in the program, so I spent the weekend before the party wrapping and organizing. There was actually more than enough to go around, so the rest of the presents went to the Sunday School kids at Sola Fe and at my church in Pavas.
The Christmas party went as smoothly as could be expected, which means it was nothing short of chaotic
I flew home on the 14th to spend Christmas with my family and to get one last hurrah with all the doctors and my dentist before my insurance ran out on Dec. 31. Ah, I have joined the 40 million. At least I live in a country right now where I can get good care for a decent price. When I go back, though, I'll have to figure something out.
I stopped by the Gathering, which is a Lutheran shindig in Lansing for high schoolers with a spinoff contingent of young adults. I got to see some friends from Michi-Lu-Ca and played with my friends' band, which was cool. I also found out what Jenga Extreme is.
And now I'm back
We're running a vacation Bible school right now for the kids, and it's going very well so far.
Hope your Christmas/Chanukah/holiday was wonderful, and happy new year!
Peace,
Elizabeth

. We decorated foam frames for the students' parents, and I was busy trying to print up the last-minute photos on my printer so that they could be given as presents. I had a few parents who were helping, but the place of course was a disaster afterward and they didn't really know what was and wasn't garbage, so I ended up having to fish through the garbage later for puzzle pieces, duplos, jenga blocks and other stray objects. But, the kids had a very good time and really enjoyed their presents. Alejandro Enrique yelled, "Wow! El mio pesa mucho!" Which means: "Wow! Mine weighs a lot!" . I've got a student group of volunteers from Susquehannah University who are helping me out this week, and I'll be accompanying them for a few days to Nicaragua as they work in an orphanage. It should be very cool. We're running a vacation Bible school right now for the kids, and it's going very well so far.
