Hello!
Well, Ben arrived yesterday and we kind of worked on getting him acclamated. He's handling it very well, and hasn't traveled out of the U.S./Canada since he was 10, so this is big for him! We had lunch at a Costa Rican restaurant and walked to a nearby park; we then went on a fun run to HiperMas with Jennifer and Antony to get my mattress, which they weren't able to deliver because there are no addresses in Costa Rica, I live on a road that's too hard for a truck to get through, and I didn't have a phone for them to call me (they called Casa Concordia, Casa Concordia was supposed to call someone in the community, and that person was supposed to come get me so that I could meet the truck at the main road... there was a breakdown in communication. Sorry, long story, but this is kind of how things happen a lot here. Patience is a beautiful thing!) By the time all that was done, we were set for bed!

My apartment is STILL not done, and I decided it would be good to leave for a few days so that the construction guy can get some stuff done in peace. I'm sure it's hard to work around a person whose stuff is all over, which I'm trying not to do, but hey -- I have to live there, right?! I still don't have a shower, and this was day 4 in the sink with a bucket, so I was also psyched to have that amenity. It's also really frustrating to not be able to organize anything in the classroom because 1. there's a constant flow of construction dirt, so I don't actually want to leave anything out, 2. Again, the cool beach
Again, the cool beach
all of _my_ stuff is still in the classroom because I can't move it into my apartment, and 3. if I'm there, the kids want to play with the toys, which I love to do, but nothing's organized and as such, I just noticed a few nights ago that some things had gone missing (a doll and three books, and the doll mysteriously resurfaced after I asked about it), and I don't really want to allow kids up there anymore until I have a solid inventory. So it made sense to leave!

We got up this morning, organized a few things and left for Cahuita at 1:30, which is on the Carribbean coast; Amy and I stayed here last year for a day, and it's really cool to be back. We're staying in a place for $20 a night between the two of us, which has both an absence of ants and a working shower! =) It's really nice. We will stay here one more day and hike in Cahuita National Park tomorrow and play on the beach, then perhaps go to Puerto Viejo for a day; we can go both rafting and zip-lining through the rainforest there.

We'll get back on Saturday, in time to maybe put the water-proof paint on the shower and maybe even shower there on Sunday, and then we'll be there for church (well, that's the plan). Maybe I'll have a window...? Maybe a wall behind the sink...? Maybe I'll even be able to move my stuff in...?

The program will kick off on Wednesday regardless with vacation Bible school, which will go until Sunday, and then the regular program will start.

I will put pictures up soon, I promise!

=)Elizabeth
