Toooookkkkkkkyyyyyyyoooooooooooo!
But first, getting there;
Day 15 - Sometimes the worst part of travelling, is the travelling.
Woke at 3:50am to catch our flight. Going to leave the description of this as vague as possible, but after surviving 15 days, by stomach thought it would be funny to give in to Delhi belly the morning i left. 1 hour in a taxi, 5 hours on a plane, 1 hour in an airport, 5 more hours on a plane, then 2 hours on a train, all with a really dodgy stomach.
To be honest though, that was pretty much worst case scenario and it wasn't even that bad! I think it was the adrenaline and excitement of where i was headed...
Day 16 - Rising Sun.
Well, i title this 'Rising Sun', but we actually got up about 2pm. I think Tokyo is perhaps harder to get across with words than India was, it is simply amazing. It:s everything i thought and hoped it would be, and more.
We headed straight for Ginza in the morning to walk around the streets and just take it all in. Lights, people, showrooms, adverts, clothes, cars, drinks, vending machines, trains passing overhead, there:s just so much that's different. And not just different, better. It's like being in the future, not just 8hrs in the future, but Minority Report in the future, or even Blade Runner. I think pictures will have to tell most of the story and they'll follow as soon as I'm not paying 5 pounds an hour for the internet.
So really quickly, we:ve been to the Sony head office to look at their unreleased products (played on a Playstation 3), had some amazing food that was as cheap as India, went to the top of the Tokyo Tower to see a 360 degree view of the tokyo skyline from 250m in the air, then headed to Shinjuku to a kareoke bar, got very drunk, walked 3 hours to get home and woke up today at 3pm...
Day 17 - (Wednesday)
Got up at 3pm, headed to Yoshinoya's for more cheap deliciousness. I could stop there but feel compelled to write about just how awesome the food is here. It's basically a fast food restaurant, but in a way so awesome that it seems unfair to tarnish it with that name. The first problem however, was getting in the door. We could see the completely clear glass window that looks into the restaurant, but seemingly no door. Until we touched the glass and the clear window silently slided to one side immediately, presenting us with the entrance. So we sat down at the typical sushi bar style banquette seating, but there weren't any menus. A bit confused as there were no waiters or anything, we watched as a guy walked in, turned to the right and made his food selection on a touch screen, paid the money and sat down. A-ha. So we copied, paid the equivalent of about 2 quid, and waited no more than 2 minutes before being presented with Miso soup, rice and a freshly stir-fried teryaki beef dish. It's just astonishingly amazing. I want to take these restaurants around the world with me.
So anyway, after lunch we headed to the bright lighted shopping centre-point, Shibuyu. You may recognise this from Lost in Translation or just as the massssssive zebra crossing square... The experience of seeing this is indescribable. We pretty much just mouth wide open people watched for a good hour or so. It may as well be another planet, it's amazing. So anyway it's hard to remember exactly what we did from here, but pretty much just got very very very drunk and ended up in a Tokyo rave called 'Atom'. We walked home again, getting home at about 6am.
Brilliant night.
My favourite city in the world just changed i think.
