There are so many things to do in Washington so we found a map and circled all the things we were really interested in and set out to see as many a possible.  We started at the National Geographic building where they had a great Japanese garden display and a huge display of photographs from around the world.  From there we headed to the White House and peaked at it between the bars of the huge fence.  We had wanted to do a tour of the White House but unfortunately you have to apply to your local congress person six months before you plan your visit to get approval and have to have a group of ten or more.  Hmmmm they sure make it hard for the general non-terrorist public to look at things after September 11 these days.  We did look in the White House information building which had photos of the interior then headed over to some of the monuments.  We saw the Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, WW2 Memorial, Korean War Memorial and the Jefferson Memorial.  After walking to all of those we were absolutely starving and had sore feet.  We quickly checked out the Capital Building and the National Mall before Rick went to the Library of Congress and Supreme Court, while Megan and Carlie rested their weary legs.
The following day we headed straight to the Natural History Museum at the Smithsonian Institute.  We enjoyed wandering around checking out the exhibits and even got to watch the feeding of a hairy tarantula.  After we tired of nature and science we headed to the Holocaust Museum which whilst sad was very interesting.  Last stop for the day was the National Air and Space Museum where we spent the afternoon leaning about flight and airplanes, well Rick was already well educated but Megan and Carlie learnt some stuff.
That night we headed out for a meal to celebrate our 4th anniversary at a little restaurant called Thai Tanic.  It was great to have a night to ourselves to celebrate and talk about the past four years and what we have done and achieved.  Love you honey thank you for four wonderful years and hopefully many more to come :)
