After having a long long sleep the day before, we had to be up at 6AM to meet Carlie, Megan's sister, at the airport.  Eventually after seeing her come out last from the arrival gate we headed off to catch the train to the new hotel in Hollywood!  About one and a half hours later on the Metro and taking a wrong turn we arrived in the fabled city of Hollywood.  Leaving Carlie to sleep for a few hours we decided to check out the new area.  We saw sights such as the Walk fo Fame, Gruman's Chinese Theatre, the Kodak Theatre and we even got a good look at the famous Hollywood sign.

After Carlie had slept for a while we decided to go back and wake her up so we could all get some dinner.  Let's just say of all the pizza places we could have chosen we picked the wrong one.  Sure the food was okay but the waitress (or perhaps it was a waiter) was very strange.  When she asked us what drinks we wanted Carlie answered a "Diet Coke", Megan asked for a "normal Coke" and Rick asked for either a Sprite or Seven up, he didn't care which.  Well did he start something or what, the waitress replied "I tried to tell you what we had but you interrupted me (looking at Carlie)....twice (looking at Megan)".  After about a minute of total silence Rick finally worked up the courage to ask "So what do you have then?", as the waitress added "I don't like that".  It was all we could do not to laugh out loud at her.

After dinner we took Carlie to check out the coolest clothing store on earth - Gap and American Eagle.  So cool!

On the way back Rick got stopped by some guy on the street and when he ignored him as we so often do when stopped by strangers trying to sell us something poor Rick was accused of being a racist and being upset at the OJ trial!  What the?

A very interesting mix of characters here in LA to say the least.

Now for those of you who are wondering who Carlie is, she is Megan's younger sister that has decided to join us on the last part of our trip.  She likes romantic walks on the beach, digs 80's music and is a big Ramones fan.  Her star sign is Leo, so she can be a bit of a lion sometimes and when she was younger wanted to be a librarian.  Overall a nice innocent girl very keen to leave the country behind and wander through the big wide world.

Hey guys,
What a spectacular trip. I happen to accidentally stumble upon it when looking for the address of the guest house we are at in Chang Mai (Whiskey Inn) and your blog entry popped up.
We are in the middle of a 15 month strip of our own, but we are not touching western Europe or North America because they are too expensive. Would you be willing to share your costs for your trip for ... show all
