Mouthful

Unfortunately no showers available in Altoa Town so we chucked on the same old clothes and headed out to see the Ollague Volcano. It was amazing seeing smoke and steam jetting out of the volcano's side; the closest we've ever been to an active volcano before. With so much to see in the Reserva Nacional de Fauna Andina Eduardo Avaroa (try saying that mouthful three times really fast!) we drove close to the Chilean border and stopped for a break at the Stone Tree. This was one of the rock formations that appeared to be in the middle of a desert.

For lunch we stopped at one of the Four Lakes, inhabited by hundreds of pink flamingoes. We were now 4550 meters above sea level, though were pretty comfortable after our Arequipa altitude sickness issues. Driving onwards we stopped to pay the 30 Boliviano entrance fee to the Reserva then drove to a hostel at Lake Colorada. That night Ovideo cooked a pretty basic dinner (our cook Clementine left us on the second day!) that we ate around a pot belly stove. The temperature outside had dropped severely and finally the blankets we'd hired in Uyuni were being used.
