The time had come to leave Italy bound for Madrid and hopefully Brazil sometime this week. Luckily when we landed in Spain the helpful Iberia people gave us a choice of flights to Rio in the coming days so we choose to stay in Spain for three nights and took a flight on the 12th of September. We're not sure why we had such a hassle trying to get on one as we had about ten different flights to choose from in the end. It was a whole lot of stress for nothing.

Basically we didn't see much of Spain except for the hotel room where we opted to update the blog and basically do nothing. On TV we could watch the Simpsons, the movie ET or Friends all dubbed into Spanish. On Sunday we could also watch the televised bull fighting. Switching it off we decided against viewing the slaughter. We seemed to perplex the hotel owner a bit when we returned from a short walk to grab some dinner. She asked us what time we had left and what we had done all day. When we told her we had been sleeping and relaxing she furrowed her brow up and gave us a weird look. We decided if she asked again we were going to tell her we were travel writers just organising our Europe notes before heading to Rio. Thankfully she steered clear of us for the next two days probably thinking we were honeymooners and giving us our peace and quiet.

The only place we saw in Madrid was a huge market square just down the road which was surrounded by three storey buildings all in different colours. We sat in the square and tucked into traditional paella and a huge jug of sangria. Drunk as loons we stumbled back to the hotel, very relaxed and happy thanks to the aforementioned sangria.
