This last week in London has been pretty interesting. On Friday Rick was lucky enough to attend the Betfred Cup at Sandown Park horse racing track. It was a customer event for his work that turned into a pretty "serious" drinking session (the bill shows 15 bottles of wine, numerous mixer drinks and 88 bottles of Becks - all consumed by 10 people in around 4 hours). Rick ended up at a massive nightclub called Oceania somewhere in Kingston. After a couple more drinks and losing his fellow workmates he decided to call it a night and headed for the door. Twenty minutes later he found the exit and left (back at work on Tuesday he found out the other two guys also got lost in the place - it really was huge) to catch a bus back home. Luckily the bus was heading in the general direction of Clapham, though he did jump on another one somewhere out Wimbledon way. The next day he was very hung-over and had a really sore neck from lying in one of those strange drunken sleeping positions.

With Bank May Day long weekend we decided to try and see some more of the local London sights. Our plans to visit Ireland were put on hold as the cost of flights sky rocketed on the long weekend. We jumped on a bus and headed down to Battersea Park. The Park was great; lots of designed gardens and fountains on the banks of the Thames River. We wandered through the parks and continued our walk through Sloane Square up to the famous Harrods Department Store in Knightsbridge. Harrods was packed with tourists taking photos in the store. We checked out all the expensive goods though did buy some donuts and Harrods biscuits in a nice old fashioned tin. Passing on having our photos taken inside a shopping centre we moved onto McDonalds so Rick could have a nice greasy burger - part of the hangover cure. Tired after wandering around we grabbed the Tube back home and picked up some Indian take away for dinner. The food came in a cool bag, had all kinds of sauces and was absolutely yummy. It reminded us of our trip to India, a place we think we'll go back to one day.

Sunday turned into a typical bum around the house day. We didn't do much, just kicked back and vegged out at home. On Monday we headed out to the local museums and see St Paul's Cathedral. We decided to detour to see the London Wall, remnants of a Roman wall that used to surround the city of London But on the way ended up having one of those stupid fights over nothing that couples have 02 - Hurdles

. Megs stormed off towards the museum and Rick continued on to the London Wall.

Shortly after storming off Meg calmed down a little and tried to ring Rick on his mobile to find out where he was but unfortunately he had left it at home. Unable to contact him she spent the afternoon wandering around the London Museum and then checked out the grounds of St Paul's Cathedral. It was only when she looked in her purse for something that she realized she had all the money, cards and the Student ID's. A little sheepishly she headed home expecting Rick to be there cranky only to find the place empty. Unbeknown to Megs, Rick had also wandered around St Paul's and then made his way to the British Museum expecting to find Megs there. Unfortunately the London Museum and the British Museum are two different places and so their paths did not cross until Rick arrived home.

So guys this just shows we are human and yes we've had a couple of fights on our trip, but hey we figure we are doing well not wanting to kill each other after spending close to 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for close to 7 months. Back at the flat we made up and had a laugh at how silly we are. The trials and tribulations of being a couple on the road! As some payback Rick then tortured Megan with all the photos he had taken of statues and such at his museum 03 - Battersea Power Station

Oh right - because we are attempting to educate our readers I should include this small boring passage about the museums:

The London Museum was interesting to get an idea of how London has changed through the years, whereas the crowded British Museum contains all kinds of artifacts the British have pillaged through the ages. Their Egyptian exhibition, including the famous Rosetta Stone, was huge. There are lots of artifacts that some countries want returned on display and pamphlets outlining the British Museum's opinion on why they should retain the stolen items in their collection.
