We made the most of our late train out of Guangzhou and slept in until 11am; a luxury we haven't had for a while. We walked the 200 meters to the train station and found that we had to have our bags x-rayed on entering. Not something we normally have to do when boarding a train. Figuring out which platform we were on was a bit of a challenge as all of the signs are in Chinese but we successfully negotiated our way through the crowds of people and found our carriage, number 13. We said hello to our Chinese compartment mates but they speak no English and we don't speak Mandarin so it's been a quiet trip so far. There has been lots of smiles and hand gestures. For dinner Rick chased down the roaming cart but not knowing how to say stop in Mandarin, they kept going. Eventually they stopped to serve someone else in the adjacent carriage so we got some food. Not sure what it was, some kind of meat with rice, but it tasted ok!
