Getting into Thailand we made our way firstly past the usual "taxi?", "taxi sir?" and "do you need a taxi madam?" and walked through from the international to the domestic terminal. At the domestic one we wanted to checkout the availability of a flight to Phuket. A guy came up and tried to usher us to his tourist stand, but we declined and went to the Bangkok Airways counter. India has taught us not to trust anyone and to check it out for yourself before making a decision. Lucky for us they had a flight to Phuket leaving at 5.20 pm and it only cost us $80 AUD each. Bargain! We had to go back later to get the tickets as their system was down, but when we did we made a bee-line to the departures lounge to try and catch a few hours of shut eye. Inside the gate lounge they had free Internet (using it now) and free nibbles. Megs was quite impressed. We drank some chocolate milk (something we were both craving a few days back) and ate popcorn, banana chips and other nice cakey things.

The security in Bangkok was a little less strict than in Mumbai, where Megan had to empty the entire contents of her two hand luggage bags and explain to the guard what each item was. Rick , still waiting in the men's queue, could hear "this is a towel, this is a bottle, this is a toothbrush...". Not the best when you've got personal items on display and a huge crowd of guys eyeing everything. Rick was asked to remove his shoes, money belt etc, but luckily didn't have to empty his hand luggage.

At this stage we haven't worked out where we are going to stay in Phuket, only that it must be relaxing, have a pool and that we need a massage within the first two days. The last 48 hours have been a killer trek, though the experience has been very worthwhile. After re-charging our batteries we'll head up North and explore this new country.
