We decided to head for Ravenna along the Adriatic coast. On our way we stopped at a small costal town to check the sea and its beaches.
It was still pre-season so there were no holidaymakers yet. While the town and the beach looked quite nice it is very hard to get excited about the European seas and beaches once you have seen the white sand and colourful waters of Western Australia or Queensland.
However, as an educated reader would know, neither Queensland nor WA has on offer anything of the kind that Ravenna has. We entered Ravenna somewhat nervously worried about heavy traffic running through a labyrinth of old, narrow, one-way streets.
Fortunately, while the streets are indeed narrow, mostly shared by cars and pedestrians, we needed just ... three laps around the same area of the town to find a suitable parking spot. The historical town was small enough to do all the sightseeing on foot.
The biggest historical attractions are the Mausoleum of Theodoric (6C) (which is actually located on the outskirts of the city) and the mosaics than can be found in the St Vitalis Church.
