Rome is is a truly an unbelievable place that fully deserves its reputation. 
It is also very tourist friendly with a very good subway system and with all sites of interest easily accessible.  It is a pleasant city to have a walk through too.
Visiting the St Paul's Basilica we wanted to verify a myth making rounds in Poland that says there are only two spots left in the Pope's gallery which, of course, indicates an early end of the world.  
Fortunately there are 7 spots still available so ... relax!
