Now we needed to find a place to stop overnight. Our vehicle moving slowly through a small country town aroused suspicions of the ever-vigilant Carabinieri. And so we were asked for the documents once more.
Edyta was so annoyed with all that that she started complaining to the officer about their freeway system and the fine that apparently we had just received. After she had explained all the details the guy smiled and said "No capisco". Nevertheless he seemed disarmed, forgot the documents and event tried to be helpful. In the end we found a half empty hotel car park in which we stopped, uninvited, for the night.
We managed barely 3 hours of sleep and early in the morning headed back to the Ancona North freeway exit hoping that that's the place to dispute our fine. Fortunately the cancellation of the fine proved to be a formality and it makes you wonder what this system is all about.
