The trip from Ravenna to San Marino proved somewhat less straightforward than we had hoped for.
There was a bad accident (not surprising when you see how they drive over there) and police were diverting all traffic on to the freeway that was going in a different direction.  For us it meant a necessity to do an equivalent of a U-turn on a freeway which meant going ahead to the nearest exit (7 km in this case) and then finding an entrance back in the opposite direction which is never easy on Italian freeways.
Incredibly, some Italian drivers were doing an immediate U-turn oblivious to the danger caused by their cars suddenly and unexpectedly stopping in the middle of the freeway, waiting for a gap in the oncoming traffic and then executing a U-turn through a maintenance gap in the barrier separating the two directions of the traffic.

Then, instead of sticking to the main roads we got lured by road signs indicating a shorter route to San Marino.  As most of the time, the signs proved inconsistent and misleading.  Nevertheless we managed to arrive at San Marino, according to the road sign anyway.  We expected some sort of a castle or historical object but as we were driving along narrow, winding roads we saw nothing of the sort.  We were ready to leave and report back home that San Marino looks more or less like Catoomba in the Blue Mountains or any other small town in Australia when we noticed a curious sign pointing in the direction of Centro Historico.  Following the signs we arrived in the real San Marino where we would have arrived much earlier had we kept to the main roads.
The first sight that greeted us was a shop sign in ... Polish, Jola's Alcohol Shop.
Later on we found more traces of the spirited Polish business there.
San Marino turned out to be a very nice place with its main castle on the top of a hill and other historical buildings placed around it.  Everything kept in a great shape, an attractive place for tourists.
