The US really don't do immigration very well. We all had to get off while the plane was serviced. You are herded into a transit lounge and can't visit the shops etc. You still have to fill in immigration forms and be finger printed for this. I wanted a shower in the Air NZ lounge. To do this I had to stand in line for an hour to go through immigration. When I got to the desk and handed my form in the officer asked if my name was really Patricia. Bummer! I'd mixed the form up and had to do it again. Pat handed her from in in the name of Elliot which was accepted without question. They must have thought it some Limey girly name. I then had to go through security to get back in and had 15 mins for my shower. Wasn't allowed to join Pat in the transit lounge by some jobsworth and she got back on the plane not knowing whether I'd re-appeared. Never transit the US it just isn't worth the hassle.
