Up for 0730 breakfast briefing with delegation (not joined by Pat) then off for calls with the British Council who had organised a heavy duty session with breakout groups with civil society organisations which is more interesting than it sounds. This was after a briefing with the Britsh High Commissioner at the embassy.
Also met the clerk of the parliament and a very long session with the foreign minister discussing the situation in Zimbabwe amongst other things. He chairs the South African group of nations and has been very involved. Later met the leader of the opposition party CUF. this involved getting lost in the back streets of Dar and driving through the middle of a veg market which was an interesting experience.
Evening was a reception at the High Commissioners residence with lots of drinks and nibbles. Pat thinks the role of the Foreign Office is simply to keep her supplied with gin and tonics in far away places. Had a few beers back at the hotel to relax.
