The blue sky and sunshine gave us a good chance for vivid photos. The photos give you an idea of what we saw.
After the eagles started departing the area after the feeding, we drove north to try and see the volcanoes. Mt. Augustine was visible from Homer so we wanted to see if we could get a good view of rumbling Mt. Redoubt. We headed to Anchor Point and there we could see two and a half volcanoes. Augustine and Illiamna were fully visible, but clouds covered the top of Mt. Redoubt. We are thinking that warmth from the interior of the volcano mixing with the cold air was creating the clouds.
Then after lunch we took a drive up to Skyline Drive which gives a nice view of the spit and the mountains and glaciers across the bay. Then down to the spit to catch the sunset. As we headed down on the spit, we passed a group of rafting sea otters. Some otters floating on ice chunks. The sun provided us with a golden sunset with Mt. Augustine in the background.
