After 14 states, 3 Canadian provinces, over 14,000 miles and 90 days we were finally on our last leg headed for home.  We closed up the trailer for one last time and started on the 270 mile trip home.  The drive home was bittersweet.  It is good to be home with friends and family, but it means the end of a wonderful adventure to our country's Last Frontier.  The trip was filled with both the good and the bad.  The good included beautiful scenery, meeting many nice people, seeing many of God's creatures in their own habitat, and a chance to explore our largest state.  The bad was primarily the weather.  There were times when it rained for days at a time and sunshine was scarce when it wasn't raining.  The chill just never really left the air.  We felt for the Alaskans who have such long cold winters and wait for the summer as the reward for surviving.  They never really got a summer this year.
However, we had many highlights on our trip:  seeing our friends in Illinois, not once but twice; the lingering winter on the Icefields parkway; the eagles in Prince Rupert; restful, quiet Wrangell, Alaska; the stunning scenery on the drive from Haines to the Alaska Highway; Denali National Park, both Mt. McKinley and the animals that live there; seeing the Talkeetna "Moose Dropping Festival"; the eagle in Homer that entertained us at Beluga Lake; beautiful Prince William Sound; breaching humpback whales; the bears trying to catch fish at Hyder and last but not least the drive along the Going to the Sun Highway in Glacier National Park.
There is still much of the Last Frontier that we have not seen, but that will have to wait for another time.
We are thankful that all of our travels on the highway were uneventful and we covered more than 14,000 miles without a mishap.  Perhaps our beloved Pooky was watching over us.
