The day started out with sunshine, so we went north to the Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve hoping to see some eagles.  We were told that most of the eagles had moved out to other areas on the river for nesting.  We saw one eagle perched in a tree on the way up and two juveniles in the prime viewing area in the preserve.
Along the river we passed two fish wheels operating.  We think the salmon were being caught for research, since the two people working at the wheels were releasing the fish after looking at them.  About the time we got back to Haines the clouds had moved in and the rain started.  We used the opportunity to visit the Bald Eagle Foundation.  By the time we were done at the foundation it was lunch time so we headed back to the trailer for lunch.
After lunch, hoping the rain would stop, we drove up toward Salmon Creek to look for more eagles and wildlife, but encountered only heavier rain.  Driving back into town we stopped at a few gift shops, then gave up and went back to the trailer to do some organizing of our pictures.
We are hoping for better weather tomorrow.
