We were up at 4 am to be at the ferry by 5:15.  The weather cooperated so that we did not have to close the trailer in the rain, and we made the short drive to the ferry terminal.  We were required to be there three hours before sailing time, so there was a lot of sitting and waiting.  When we were finally allowed to board, we got the trailer on easily.  Being one of the first vehicles on the ferry we were able to get seats at the window on the observation deck.  Although the rain held off until we were safely on board, it soon started once again to rain.
The trip took us past eagles, sailboats, lighthouses and finally into the Ketchikan harbor.  The seas were for the most part calm and the ride smooth.  We enjoyed lunch on the ferry just before arriving in Ketchikan.
Fortunately we were able to disembark forward from the ship and were soon heading up to our campground.  We are staying at the far northern end of Ketchikan on the water.  The campground has a number of eagles that gather here until the salmon runs.  We were able to get a few eagle pictures before it got too dark, but as night settled we could still hear them talking in the trees.
After setting up the trailer, we made our way into town to check out the location of the rain gauge where we are to meet our tour to Misty Fjords tomorrow.  Hopefully the rain will hold off for the cruise.
