Today we encountered our first glitch of the trip. We arose early to get into downtown Ketchikan to meet the tour we were scheduled to take. We were going to Misty Fjords and were to be at the rain gauge at 7:15 am. At 7:15 we were there and the tour folks were not. We waited until about 7:30 and then attempted to get in touch with the tour company. We had everything but their phone number. Since they are located in Juneau their number was not in the phone book, so it was off to the internet café while Fred waited at the rain gauge. After several visits waiting for the café to open, I finally got their number and contacted them. They were very apologetic and made two calls to find out that the tour folks said they were there, but didn't see us. We spoke to every tour group we saw, and they were not there.
So, after getting a refund for our trip, we rescheduled for tomorrow with a different tour company then explored the southern end of Ketchikan. We headed to Saxman Totem Park, another park with local totems. The attendant at the park pointed out to us the eagle's nest across the street. I don't know how he knew we liked eagle's nests. After exploring the park, we continued on south. We soon came upon a nice waterfall. The scenery along the drive was nice, unfortunately the sky was gray and overcast after some morning rain.
We also did a little window shopping along the waterfront. After which we stopped for some groceries and returned to the campground to enjoy our eagles.
Tomorrow we will try the Misty Fjords trip again.
