Sleep was a bit difficult last night as we found out that we were directly next to the train tracks.  They were loud.  Then it started to rain.  The drops tap danced on the roof all night.  So I was up before the alarm and Fred shortly thereafter.  For the first time, we had to close and hook up the trailer in the rain.  Fortunately, although it was a steady rain it was not pouring.  We had rain for a while as we headed west, but it stopped before we got to Montana.  Our drive today was a long one, 540 miles from Minot to Shelby.  As before, we stretched our legs by finding a few geocaches along the way.  We paralleled the rail line almost the entire way across Rt. 2.  For the most part the road was two lanes, but there was very little traffic.
We did see some wildlife, although none posed for a picture.  We saw magpies, pheasant, wolves (?), pronghorn sheep, and played dodge-um with prairie dogs.
The countryside is very unlike the east.  There are miles and miles of nothing but ranch land.  We drove miles without seeing a house.
As the afternoon progressed with did encounter two rainstorms and followed one which stayed to the north of us.
After 12 hours on the road, we finally arrived at Shelby, Mt where the wind is blowing as I have never seen it before.  We did not unhook from the car so we didn't blow over.
Tomorrow we leave the U.S. and enter Canada.
