Rise early for orthros and paraklesis, spiritual discussion following and then we return back to work. Stella and I tackle the house while George returned to the garden. Fr. Gerasimos returns for lunch. After a brief ¡§siesta¡¨, we go to Souroti for Vespers and to see elder Paisios¡¦ grave. The Vespers was for St. Efthymia (4th century) who had special connection to the monastery. We meet with a nun named Anna who shows us around and introduces us to the hegumeni (abbess), Philothea, and then takes us to a reception area for¡K..greek coffee and cookiesfº We then went to another monastery on our way back that dates back to the 13th century which was founded by St. Theophano. There were several relics in the church¡XSt. Theophani, St. Anastasia, and one I cannot recall. We then purchase some cheese for dinner and once again head toward Zoodochos Peghi. We stop in a small village to buy some trigonis (sp?) that was native to the village. I was actually the one designated to go into the store and purchase the pastries which was a little intimidating as in these small village no one speaks English and my Greek is poor but I was fortunate enough to understand and to speak back with the clerk what I wanted. After the whole transaction was completed, the clerk asks me in English where I was from!! He said he had a Scottish wife. I felt so silly because he was chuckling at my poor Greek and the whole time he knew English. We finally arrive back at Zoodochos Peghi and enjoy another fabulous dinner and pastries for desert. We do compline and then go to bed.
