This reads like a cut-and-paste from a guide book. Either it is, or I've been on the road too long:
It's colonial past, and its cosmopolitan development have given Georgetown a wealth of architectural, social and edible variety. From terraced shophouses with latticed windows to Chinese pagodas, Hindu temples and Islamic mosques; from Indian 'banana leaf' thalis, chinese noodle soups to the Malay fusion 'curry mee' seafood noodle curry, and, indeed, from Indians, Chinese and Malays to Tourists, the best of Malaysia's famous diversity is represented in Georgetown, which nonetheless retains the slow pace and relaxed ambiance of an island town.
I found a hostel that for some reason was crammed with Americans, and spent much of the next two days in the amenable company of three Californians. Together we excurted by funicular up Penang hill, the hill station overlooking Georgetown, where we took in the view and enjoyed the relative cool of 800m altitude. The following day we wandered the town, three of us taking snapshots while Andy, professional photographer, made art. The afternoon was passed in a simplified version of contract bridge. Very colonial.
