Well, I have to say that I have been rather lazy since I got to Santiago on Thursday evening. I'm staying in a fab new hostel right bang in the centre of Plaza de Armas so I've been vegging out on the terrace listening to traditional drummers on the square and generally watching the hub bub below. I fell in love with a painting on my first day here and have given in and bought it (with the assistance of the German manager of the hostel who haggled for a good price).

I'm really struggling to understand the Chilean accent - they really speak quickly, mutter and make up their own language basically (a bit like the irish, I suppose). I'm glad that this wasn't my first introduction to spanish as I would have had no chance of ever understanding anything at all. Also, as expected, Chile is much more expensive than the other SA countries that I've been to so that's part of the reason why I'm just relaxing - it's too expensive to do much else.

Last night there was an unexpected party at the hostel and it ended up being a rather late night but really good fun. I'm feeling a little delicate today so going to try to have a very quiet and chilled out night tonight before my flight back. Wail!!! Thanks for all the offers of lifts from the airport - sweeties!

Hope to speak to/see you all soon!
