Today was awesome – I love Venice and I don't care if you think that sounds a bit gay…

En-route we stopped at Verona, famous for being the scene for Romeo and Juliet. We started in Venice with a walking tour. The weather was perfect and the vibe from town was great. There are no cars here – the only way to get around is by foot or boat on one of the canals that criss-cross throughout.

The whole place feels like one big giant city square. It’s very easy to get lost but there’s always something going on wherever you are.

Our tour finished at St Marks’ square, we then took a gondola ride through the canals (the girls lapped it up) and then had some demonstrations. One on lace making, the other on glass blowing. The glass demo was actually very cool – we watched some guy make a perfectly formed prancing horse out of 1000degC molten plasma in less than two minutes.

The two touristy sites I visited were the Doges Palace and St Marks Basilica. I though that the Palace had a ceiling that was as good if not better than the Sistine Chapel, it did cost €18 to get in though. The Basilica was worth seeing and had a cool display of golden treasure with swords, crowns and glasses.

Then after a lengthy stroll back to the bus for our last night in Italy. We had a masquerade (mask) party. With two other bus groups in town it was one of the biggest nights of the tour for some.

We’ve starting to feel reality creep back into our lives now – won’t be long now till we’ve finished the tour and will be looking for ways to save for our next big trip. Italy has been kick-ass though. We will definitely be coming back and I would say that Venice could just about beat Rome as our favorite spot here.
