Where I stayed
Well, here we are again, closing the loop.
SFO was a nightmare. There had been weather - wind and rain all day Friday and most of the day Saturday. We arrived about 45 minutes late from SYD, cleared customs, rechecked our bags (and ourselves) for home destinations, and had a quick shower in the beautiful United International Arrivals Lounge. Then our Denver flight began to delay.
All four of us were booked on the same flight to Denver, you see, connecting from there to our respective destinations of BOS (Travis), CVG (the Simpkins), and IAH (me). But as the delay grew, our connections were in trouble. Travis was in trouble first, and he got the heck out of Dodge, able to get rebooked on an afternoon nonstop to BOS (which painfully sat on the tarmac for an extra hour before takeoff).
The rest of us headed to the RCC to wait, but very soon both of our connections were in trouble too
I arrived back in Houston at 4:30p on Jan 6, a day late, my bag waiting for me at the baggage office. I was the last one to arrive back, and mine was the last bag to be claimed, so this officially signals the end of the trip, and all is well. We did it!!
And now it is 3:50 am and I am wide awake. Curses on the jet lag! :o)
More to come in this space: pictures posted (or at least links to them) and a post-mortem lessons learned on "what we did and why we did it) some time over the next two weeks.
Cheers!

Flight path into SFO
. Long story short, I spent about three hours getting them to rebook us for the next morning. The three of us then overnighted at the Travelodge SFO South (that's the classy one), watched the wild card game (Jaguars/Steelers) and got some grub at the American Bull Bar and Grill down the street, and headed to bed to try and combat the jet lag.
