Ha.  Well, as Travis was relaxing comfortably in the Boston Airport Hilton last night, I was, as he mentioned, on my way to Denver.  At which point, my flight from Denver to San Jose, CA was completely cancelled.  Awesome.  This was, incidentally, the same flight Travis was supposed to have been on, which makes his decision to overnight in Beantown even more correct.

As for me, after some finagling to get protection on the 6am flight Friday morning, I was able to fly standby on the next flight to SFO (Go Premier status!!).  I arrived an hour later, and went to SFO instead of SJC, a 35 mi increase in one-way driving for the lovely and accommodating Miss Maggie, but all in all it seems like small price to pay for a flight cancellation on one of the busiest travel days of the year.  And here I will echo Travis and say that I'm very glad we put the 24 hour buffer in there the way that we did.

Maggie and I have had a lovely (if short!) visit, staying up late enough chatting that I could call Travis as he was boarding his morning flight (2:30a PST = 5:30a EST), and having a lovely leisurely morning of eggs and astrodynamics today.  All that remains is to find our luggage -- both Travis and my bags were sent on to SJC, so I'm going to attempt to swing by and pick them up on the way into the city and SFO later.

I did call this a "great adventure," right?  How great could it have been if everything went totally smoothly?
