This trip began in our heads about a year before it's commencement.  We had wanted to test the waters of long duration travel and location independent work for some time, having wild dreams of world-schooling our kids someday and wanting a dry run of it.  The wedding of some friends taking place in Malaysia gave us the focus and the deadline by which to plan this whole thing and we started to piece it together.

Then T went and broke his leg, and everything was put on hold.  A trip that had originally started out as "rent an apartment in a SE Asian country for a month and get a taste of expat living" had ballooned into "Add 2 new countries and SEE ALL THE THINGS."  There would be many airport transfers, lots of lugging of the luggage.

As we got closer, T felt stronger and we both felt like the trip, in most of its originally planned glory, was back on the table.  And we decided that taking a perhaps slightly limited trip to Asia was a better option than sitting at home depressed for a month because we should have been there.  We packed for about two weeks prior to departure, getting the gear and the clothes just right, and re-learning how to rig up the luggage to the stroller so that I would not have to carry much at all - we could put it all on wheels.  (Or rather, I could be free to carry a child on my shoulders while the bags rode comfortably on wheels.)

And so, with the surgeon's blessing we departed on the greatest adventure of our lives to date.

T did finagle with the airline a little bit to get them to send us straight from Denver to Houston (our gateway city), instead of having to mess around by going to Omaha, from which the trip was originally booked.

And so it began...
