Where I stayed

It turned out that they did pretty well.  They awoke around 5am, so pretty early, but not unreasonable.

It was raining - this was a rainforest after all and that had a tendency to happen.  In the rain and in the dark, many snails came out of hiding.  There were snails all over the place in Bali - big snails, little snails, brown snails, white snails, yellow snails.  "'Nail" became one of D's favorite words, and remained one of his favorite words for months after the trip was over.  But that early morning was the first of our experiences with the snails and we were fascinated.

There was a huge brown snail with a giant brown shell that lived in the flower bed adjacent to our patio, and he was incredibly fun to watch.  He was so big that you could actually see his mouth chewing on the leaves.  It turns out after some Googling that we could identify him as a Giant African Land Snail - a huge pest with relatively few natural predators (weird for a snail, I guess, but there you go), that wreaks havoc upon the foliage in tropical areas all over the world.  So... not that cool of a discovery I guess.

When the time finally came for breakfast to open up at the club, we were the first ones there.

Afterward, we went for a walk around the hotel grounds and discovered the playground, where we were destined to spend a good amount of time, the lawn chess set, the pool, and the beachwalk that runs along Sanur Beach.  We explored, we relaxed, and just had a great time playing around.
