We seemed to have spent most of the day running at Laos speed - very slowly. The pick up from the hotel was late, the flight was late - but no one seems to care or get worked up about it

Vientiane is a complete contrast to Luang Prabang and the jury is still out on whether we like it or not. The short journey from the airport to the hotel passed several large temple complexes and the hotel is right next to one - I think we are going to suffer from temple fatigue before long!

Vientiane is much larger than Luang Prabang - lots of traffic, fumes and people. We have also arrived at the start of a festival period so the whole of the main street near our hotel is lined with stalls selling everything from skewered frogs to Hello Kitty ballons -  with every other stall selling flip flops! Lots of the stall holders have megaphones to help sell their wares and we even saw a monk at one of the temples enticing the people in to pray with a microphone and speakers! There is also a laser light in the sky and various competing music systems playing very loudly - all a complete contrast to Luang Prabang.

Had chicken lap (chicken minced with mint and other herbs) and papaya salad at a Lao restaurant which I'd seen recommended in Trip Advisor. The waiter asked us how hot we wanted the papaya salad and we said medium - I dread to think how hot they usually serve it - it took a lot of glasses of water to cool our mouths down!

Hopefully things will be a littler calmer tomorrow and we can enjoy the sights - however there are apparently fireworks over the river tomorrow evening so I guess it will be just as hectic.

I'm sure it'll be nice when you get used to it, probably just a bit of a shock at the moment! xx

Siem Reap temples will get you excited again but by the time you have seen them also you will definitely have temple overload lol!
